Britain's minister for Northern Ireland, Hilary Benn, accused people online of trying to incite disorder in Belfast after two days of unrest in the city following a knife attack
Sony is reminding PlayStation users that age verification will soon be required for certain PSN features in the UK and Ireland.
Players who do not verify their age by the deadline may lose access to several social and communication features, including:
- Voice chat
- Text messaging
- Party chat and group sessions
- Discord voice chat integration
- Gameplay broadcasting to YouTube and Twitch
- Some in-game chat and user-generated content features
Users will still be able to play games and access the PlayStation Store without age verification.
Sony says the change is being introduced to comply with online safety regulations and create safer online experiences for younger users.
On a trip to Ireland, Frederick Douglass met abolitionists who kept copies of the Declaration of Independence framed on the wall. That small gesture led him to begin rethinking America.
Ireland shows the growing problem with the AI boom more clearly than almost anywhere else.
Data centres already use about 22% of the country’s electricity, and that could rise to around one-third by 2030.
Recent reporting found that the growth of data centres has added hundreds of millions of euros to Irish electricity bills, pushing up costs for ordinary households.
Ireland at least receives major tax revenues and investment from hosting the European headquarters of many big tech companies. Most countries will not get those benefits.
They may simply end up paying higher energy and infrastructure costs to support AI systems owned by foreign corporations.
This is one reason public backlash with AI is growing. People are being asked to absorb higher electricity costs while hearing that AI could replace many of the jobs that currently help families pay those bills.
Xbox has reportedly canceled its planned Game Pass Family Plan.
The subscription would have allowed up to four users to share access to the full Game Pass library at a discounted rate.
It was tested in countries including Ireland and Colombia but was ultimately dropped after EA strongly opposed the shared library concept and its impact on game sales.
Oh my god, this is insane
A 33 year old man in Ireland spent 18 months injecting his own sperm into his arm in an attempt to treat chronic back pain.
He had no medical training and no medical basis for the practice. Syringes bought online were used for repeated self injections into muscle and blood vessels.
He eventually went to the emergency room after his arm became too swollen to ignore. X rays showed three recent injection sites and air trapped under the skin.
He was hospitalized, started on IV antibiotics, and treated for a severe abscess. Sadly, his back pain remained unchanged.
Elon Musk: "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland, Ireland, are living their lives quietly [Like The Hobbits in The Shire] — until one day, a thousand people show up in your village of 500 out of nowhere and start r*ping the kids."
