DICK & AL McGUIRE Brothers in the Hall of Fame The only pair of brothers from the New York City basketball community to ever be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, are the McGuire Brothers. Raised in the Rockaway Beach neighborhood of Queens, the older Dick was born in the Bronx and younger brother Al, in Brooklyn. Dick McGuire was born January 25, 1926, in The Bronx where his parents operated a bar & grill, attended La Salle Academy, an all-boys high school in lower Manhattan. He was a four-time All-New York City basketball selection graduating in 1943 as WWII raged in Europe. He easily moved to the next level, to play college ball at St. John's University and then to Dartmouth College where he served 2 years in a wartime military training program. He was a 7-time NBA All-Star point guard for the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons, leading the Knicks to three consecutive NBA Finals in the 1950s. Dick McGuire passed away on February 3, 2010 at the age of 84 in Huntington, New York. Brother Al was born September 7, 1928 in Queens, New York, and attended St. John's Prep which was located in Brooklyn at the time, graduating in 1947. Al McGuire who was elected to The Hall in 1992, played 4 seasons for his hometown NY Knicks from 1951 to 1955, but gained his Hall of Fame recognition for his legendary coaching career, most notably for leading Marquette University to the 1977 NCAA National Championship. He passed away on January 26, 2001 at the age of 72 in Brookfield, Wisconsin after finally succumbing to a rare blood disease! The fake antidote doesn’t kill you. It leaves you without defenses when the real disease arrives. Rousseau is the fire. Voltaire is the man who dismantled your fireplace and called it progress – and then went to warm himself at the tsar’s. Together they produced the French Revolution, with the Terror, and the template for every ideological catastrophe that followed. This is because the anti-capitalist left is not actually against people being crazy rich. They're against certain types of people being crazy rich. Artists and athletes make sense to them because they've played music and sports and because their success can be explained by "luck" and "talent". Messi's wealth is not offensive to them because they understand Messi is much better at football than they are. But when it comes to business, the anti-capitalist leftist has no framework for understanding why Jeff Bezos might be super rich since 99% of them have never ever created a product, business or service that was of value to other people. They've never taken entrepreneurial risk. They've never employed people and felt the burden of responsibility that comes with that. They've never pick up a business and given it a play in the way they've picked up a ball or a guitar. They *literally* don't understand wealth creation. They think there is a fixed amount of money and the only thing a business does is split it unfairly. It's why they rage at Elon and other successful business leaders. Because they genuinely don't understand why they're wealthy. Also, and this is just as important, athletes and artists are disproportionately young, attractive, "diverse", left wing etc. Business leaders are "evil" middle aged white men whose success offends the average anti-capitalist leftist because they don't understand a) what it is they do and b) that Elon Musk has the same talent advantage on them as Messi does, it's just harder to measure.
