SAMSUNG’S $200B BROADCOM DEAL IS BIGGER THAN A MEMORY SUPPLY CONTRACT. 📊 Samsung Electronics $005930 and Broadcom $AVGO have agreed to pursue more than $200B of semiconductor cooperation through 2030, covering HBM, advanced foundry manufacturing and packaging. Reuters separately confirmed the $200B Samsung–Broadcom portion of the wider Korea–US semiconductor agreements. The headline number is huge, but the strategic shift matters more. Samsung is trying to move from being viewed as a component supplier to becoming a full-stack AI semiconductor partner: Memory → Foundry → Advanced Packaging The reported scope includes HBM4 and HBM4E for Broadcom’s AI accelerators, sub-2nm foundry processes for key chip products, and integrated support from design optimization through packaging and mass production. That matters because Broadcom is one of the central players in custom AI accelerators and high-speed data-center networking. If this MOU converts into real production orders, Samsung would capture more value from each AI chip—not only memory revenue, but also manufacturing and packaging economics. For the Korean market, Samsung is the clearest direct beneficiary. Equipment, materials and packaging names may follow, but only after capacity expansion, supplier participation and actual purchase volumes are confirmed. I would not treat the entire $200B headline as booked revenue yet. This is still an MOU. The real revaluation depends on: → Final contract volumes → Product and process allocation → Production timing → Pricing and margins → Whether orders translate into utilization and earnings The headline creates expectations. Former $CRWV employee on why neoclouds are far more exposed to GPU generation cycles than hyperscalers ( $MSFT, $AMZN, $GOOGL ): - The expert describes GPU utilization tracking at hyperscale as a continuous and disciplined process built around two lenses. The first is infrastructure utilization, covering GPU occupancy, idle time, and memory utilization, noting that 95% booked usage can still mask inefficiency if jobs stall or batches have idle gaps. The second is outcome utilization, asking whether the compute is actually generating business value, measured by metrics such as tokens trained per dollar, time to reach target accuracy, and tokens per second per GPU. - The expert sees a meaningful difference between hyperscalers and neoclouds on GPU investment economics. Hyperscalers like $MSFT, $GOOGL, and $AMZN can tolerate a 3-5 year payback period given their ability to monetize the same infrastructure across multiple revenue streams. Neoclouds like $CRWV operate on a tighter 2-3 year window. - With higher financing costs and direct dependence on infrastructure cash yield, neoclouds are far more sensitive to utilization and GPU residual risk. The biggest risk is GPU generation cycles, where a slow payback means newer chips could erode pricing power before the asset has paid itself off. - The expert explains that for hyperscalers, roughly 60% of GPU capacity is allocated to external monetization, including GPU rentals, managed AI services, enterprise inference workloads, and startup model training. The remaining 40% is used internally, and of that internal portion, the majority is still indirectly monetized through products like M365 Copilot or GitHub. Around 40% is dedicated to pure R&D. - The GPU pricing mix has shifted meaningfully over the past few years. In 2023, around 70-80% of revenue was hourly as customers paid a premium just to get access to scarce GPUs. By 2025 that had moved to roughly 50% hourly and 30-50% committed, and the expert expects 2026 to tip further toward committed at around 65% for hyperscalers as AI matures and inference becomes more predictable. Neoclouds are moving in the same direction but more slowly. - By 2027-2030, the expert sees committed contracts settling at 55-65% as the norm, with hourly pricing remaining but losing its scarcity premium as more supply comes online.

But here we get to the thing that will confound looking at human and machine as separate units: the possibility of deeper and deeper integration between human and machine. This is the strand of technology that includes: computers being able to work much more symbiotically with us, picking up on all kinds of conscious and sub-conscious signals we release as an interface, brain-computer interfaces, computer-assisted telepathy that helps multiple people better understand each other and work together. The ultimate end is erasing the binary divide between human and machine and opening up any position on that spectrum. On one end, you sitting at a laptop terminal; on the other end, mind uploading, and also everything in between. The hope is that deeply integrated human + machine will outperform separated human + machine, and that this will remain the case all the way up to the technological ceiling. This is the best "far-future AI outcome that I actually like" that I can come up with: * We preserve global political and economic pluralism (no single company or government dominates) all the way up to the technological ceiling. * We humans each get the ability to either take technological upgrades to ourselves, and explore the universe at a level competitive with "pure" machines, or stay as we are, and get some ability to act in the world through having a bot listen to our instructions. * Most of Earth will probably become a highly-regulated nature preserve where anyone can continue living the kind of life they have now (without the pains and annoyances; most challenge will be healthy "good challenge"), and if you want to do more crazy things, you go to space. Make no mistake - this is a ride through a narrow corridor. Things could go off the rails in one of several different ways: AI-on-its-own could get too powerful relative to the alternatives; one country or one company could gain decisive advantage and decide to lock it in permanently, powerful technological ways of destroying each other could cause incalculable harm, or the human + machine integration approach itself ends up preserving not enough of our humanity, and so it ends up being "just another way to make powerful bots". For these reasons, I wish that we can ride through the narrow corridor at 60 kph and not 200 kph, which is why I feel warmly toward "slowdown" / "pause" proposals (including "give us a chance to hit the brakes" ideas like mutually assured compute destruction (as in AI 2040, also previously Dan Hendrycks, and others)). My ideal world is actually one where (i) open weights wins, and (ii) Dean Ball turns out to be completely right that open weights is decelerationist because it deters capex in frontier models [though it will enable more capex in peripherals and applications], because then we get slowdown without any of the downsides of doing it through heavier-handed political means. But also I don't think we should count on the world to naturally give us "convenient" laws of economics and physics. We do have some degree of agency over the laws of politics, plenty of ways to change incentives without putting a king in charge, and we should exercise that.

Hey Mark, you're worth around $35 million while continuing to land major Hollywood roles. You could donate $25-30 million tomorrow and still live an extremely comfortable life for the rest of your days. At a conservative 4% safe withdrawal rate, even a remaining $5-10 million would generate roughly $200,000-$400,000 a year in passive income, several times what the average family earns. On top of that, you own multiple luxury properties, including a New York penthouse reportedly worth around $7 million, and you're still taking on film roles that pay millions. Lecturing others while sitting on tens of millions yourself is peak Hollywood... As for Elon, his charitable giving has far exceeded your entire net worth tenfold. And as for the idea that he can simply "solve world hunger" by writing one giant cheque only demonstrates your fundamental misunderstanding of how global hunger actually works. It's not a problem that disappears because one wealthy person transfers money into the system. You need a basic economics lesson and a mirror, because your hypocrisy is matched only by your lack of self-awareness.
