The game is a story-driven action RPG similar to Mass Effect with full voice acting for the player character. Many beta players said the male voice sounded flat and lacked emotion, and did not fit the tough Belter mercenary role. The female voice was received much better. The developers said: “While the voice actor for the male protagonist and J put in a lot of good work, they felt less expressive than we wanted.
