NVIDIA is reportedly working on a feature that could let future GeForce GPUs use an SSD as extra VRAM. When a graphics card runs out of VRAM, it could use data stored on a fast NVMe SSD instead. Your SSD won’t be as fast as real VRAM, but it could help when a game or AI app needs more memory than your graphics card has. That could mean fewer stutters and better performance in some situations. The feature is reportedly based on RTX IO and Microsoft’s DirectStorage technology.

Google Earth now lets you create AI images using real-world locations. With the new Nano Banana AI feature, you can pick any place in Google Earth, click “Create Image,” and describe what you want to see. The AI can turn that location into a historical scene, a futuristic city or a fantasy world The feature uses Google Earth’s satellite and 3D map data as the base, so the AI-generated images are built from real locations.

An AORUS RTX 5090 owner opened the card after noticing the fans spinning faster than usual, reaching around 2,000 RPM while gaming, even though the GPU temperature stayed below 76°C. OpenAI uncovered a China-linked campaign that tried to turn Americans against AI data centers by posing as regular people online. The posts focused on rising electricity demand, water use, and the impact of large data centers on local communities. OpenAI investigator Ben Nimmo said the campaign was “jumping onto the bandwagon of a genuine pre-existing domestic debate” rather than creating a new issue. According to OpenAI, the operation tried to “exploit and amplify existing public concerns” but showed little sign of impact. Nimmo said, “We didn’t see any signs that they succeeded.”

Marathon players thought they bought the full game for $14 but will lose access to the base game after the free week. During Marathon’s free-play week, some PlayStation players noticed they could purchase the Deluxe Edition for $14 after claiming the free trial, so they bought it thinking it was the full price. However, the $14 purchase only included the Deluxe Edition extras, such as the Premium Rewards Pass, tokens, cosmetics, and other bonus content. Because the free trial was active, the PS Store treated those accounts as if they already owned the base game and charged only for the upgrade. When the free-play week ends on June 9, anyone who only claimed the trial will lose access to Marathon unless they purchase the base game separately. Sony has since corrected the pricing issue, removed the $14 offer from the PlayStation Store, and some people are getting refunds.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, is criticizing Steam again over court documents claiming Valve pressured Ubisoft over a cheaper version of Rainbow Six Siege sold on its own store. Sweeney says a dominant store taking a 30% cut can bully developers into not passing savings to customers on competing platforms with lower fees. “Is this the ‘fair competition’ praised by recent articles? Subnautica 2 Design Lead Anthony Gallegos recently explained the reasoning behind the game’s no-killing policy in an interview with MinnMax. Gallegos said the decision was not made because the studio opposes violence in games: “We’re not like ‘we’re a game about pacifism’ or ‘we’re a non-violent studio’the studio was founded by modders who made Half-Life mods, and their first mods were all about shooting aliens.” Instead, he said the team had two main goals. The first was to shape how players interact with the world: “Our intent, actually, was two things. One, we wanted to avoid giving players the attitude that they were dominators over the world, because the message of the game was very much about people learning to live in parallel with the world they’re in.” Gallegos also explained that the team wanted to preserve the sense of danger and tension and cited SOMA and Alien: Isolation as major inspirations: “We’re really inspired by games like SOMA and Alien: Isolation.” “If [SOMA] ever gave players the means to fight things, no matter how intentionally miserable they made the experience, players would always be like ‘it’s always better to master the crappy combat than it is to deal with the constant threat of the thing’.” According to Gallegos, removing creature killing helps maintain the feeling of vulnerability and encourages players to survive, adapt, and coexist with the alien ecosystem rather than simply eliminating every threat they encounter.
