My Model X, Beluga, was converted into the ultimate stealth overlanding rig, with a full kitchen, running water, Starlink and 300 watts of solar panels on the hood, which allowed us to roam across some of the best most remote places on Earth with confidence. Chili Pepper Price Trends 2026 Nine years ago there were already rumors that chili pepper futures would be listed. I researched it at length and even wanted to visit the production regions in India, but nothing ever came of it. Here I have to say something about AI hallucination, which increasingly demands vigilance these days. AI swore up and down that the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange had listed chili pepper futures. Fortunately I trade every day; after a moment of doubt, I confirmed that the Zhengzhou exchange has no such thing. Back to the main story. The top boss among chili producing regions is of course China, now accounting for nearly half of global output, at 22 million metric tons per year against world production of 44 million tons. That output has fully doubled from twenty years ago to today. The growth in chili demand tracks partly with population growth and partly with economic growth: as incomes rise, people dine out more, and chili demand rises with it. Alongside this came the territorial conquest of Sichuan and Hunan cuisine, and the penetration of Mexican tacos into the United States. However, chili flavors differ by variety, and fresh chilis are hard to transport and store, so price correlation between the Americas and Asia is not high. Chinese and Indian chili prices, meanwhile, are increasingly intertwined. This is mainly because India’s S17, a high heat dried chili, occupies an ever larger place in Sichuan and Hunan cooking. People’s palates keep getting heavier: spiciness only ever intensifies, never lightens. India’s actual output is about half of China’s, but because it is dried chili, its nominal volume appears to be only one tenth of China’s. Chili shares two traits with other vegetables. First, the cobweb effect: farmers blindly chase prices, so price and output repeat in cycles, circling in place like a spiderweb, like the succession of ancient dynasties. Second, eating at the mercy of the heavens: climate has an enormous impact on chili output. But climate effects in China, India, and Mexico are not synchronized. If you compare the overlap between apple and chili growing regions, you may find some correlation between Chinese chili and apple prices, but chili has its own characteristics. Cold storage apple prices do not affect new season contracts, whereas chili cold storage inventory can affect market prices directly, with no futures influence. Still, the structural contradiction here is obvious. Last year’s high dried chili inventory and high import volume, stacked on weak food service consumption, formed one side. Meanwhile the small fresh chilis of daily consumption, thanks to the cobweb effect, saw planted acreage fall by 20 percent. So on some wholesale price indexes, you can see Sanyingjiao chili prices rebounding. For those in the growing and wholesale trade, expectation management is critically important. Prescott (1843; 1891 David McKay edition), Volume II If Volume I introduced readers to the astonishing world of ancient Mexico, Volume II is where the conquest becomes a full-blown collision of civilizations, religions, and empires. Prescott follows Hernán Cortés and his small Spanish force as they march ever deeper into the Mexican interior, accompanied by thousands of indigenous allies and guided by the indispensable interpreter Doña Marina. Every step takes them closer to the heart of an empire ruled by Montezuma II, a monarch increasingly haunted by omens, prophecies, and uncertainty about the strangers advancing toward his capital. What many people never learn is that Prescott does not describe the Mexica merely as warriors. He presents a civilization with laws, courts, schools, merchants, engineers, astronomers, poets, priests, and one of the most impressive cities ever seen in the Americas. Yet woven through every part of society was a powerful religious system centered on gods such as Huitzilopochtli, Tezcatlipoca, and the mysterious feathered serpent Quetzalcoatl. Prescott describes vast temple complexes, an organized priesthood, sacred calendars, fasting, rituals, and ceremonies that governed daily life. The most shocking event of the volume is the infamous Cholula massacre. According to the accounts Prescott follows, Cortés became convinced that a conspiracy had been laid against his army. At a signal, Spanish troops and their Tlaxcalan allies fell upon the city. Panic erupted. Nobles, warriors, and civilians were cut down as buildings burned and the streets filled with the dead. Prescott treats the episode as one of the darkest and most controversial moments of the conquest, a bloodbath whose memory would echo throughout Mexico. The march then continues into the mountains. The Spaniards climb toward the great volcanoes overlooking the Valley of Mexico, enduring cold, altitude, and dangerous terrain before reaching one of the most celebrated moments in conquest literature. Below them lay a breathtaking landscape of lakes, cultivated fields, towns, floating gardens, and, in the distance, the gleaming island city of Tenochtitlan. Nothing prepares them for the capital itself. Crossing the great causeways over the lake, they enter a city that left even hardened conquistadors astonished. Prescott describes broad avenues, canals crowded with traffic, markets overflowing with goods, palaces, gardens, temples, and a population numbering in the hundreds of thousands. At the center of it all stood Montezuma II. Prescott portrays him not as a fool, but as an intelligent and experienced ruler trapped between political reality and spiritual fear. Reports of strange omens, prophecies, and traditions concerning the possible return of Quetzalcoatl weighed heavily on his mind. Whether those traditions truly influenced his decisions remains debated, but Prescott believed they were a crucial part of the emperor’s hesitation. One of the most fascinating aspects of Volume II is that both sides believed they were acting within a divine drama. The Spaniards saw themselves as soldiers of Christianity carrying the Cross into a pagan empire. The Mexica interpreted events through their own sacred traditions, priests, prophecies, and gods. Neither side fully understood the other, yet both believed history and heaven were on their side. This is a clash between two sophisticated worlds, each possessing remarkable achievements, deep religious convictions, extraordinary courage, and terrifying capacities for violence. She folded the towels and left them on the floor including one pegged to the top of a lounger in an attempt to hold the bed empty and filmed the act set to How You Like Me Now by The Heavy while grinning and curtsying at the end. Rodgers said all week the same people would bag their spot by the pool so today we decided to give them a little surprise and take them and explained half an hour later those places would not have been available.
