Space launch was a clear case where there was a large difference in efficiency between what was possible and what was done in practice before SpaceX. A large part of that was due to everything being locked in to what (just barely) already worked, with huge risk aversion. WIth national prestige or a half billion dollar geosync satellite on the line, speculative engineering ideas that might result in a public debacle were not welcome. When failure is not an option, success can stay very expensive. You need to experiment to improve, and that fundamentally means being comfortable with failure. If you know it is going to work, it isn’t an experiment. I have long believed that nuclear power today is in precisely the same state as space launch two decades ago, but the even more pressing question now is if semiconductor fabrication might also be. On the one hand, Moore’s Law has been a sequence of heroic miracles of technology at the wafer fabrication level, grinding out hundreds of compounding small improvements. On the other hand, fabs are “too big to fail”, and there are elements of extreme conservatism at play. Intel’s “Copy exactly!” fab development exemplifies that mindset – instead of every new building being an opportunity to explore and optimize processes, it was deemed more valuable to just replicate. While each individual machine may be straining against physical limits of technology, it is possible that the systems orchestrating them all together could be far from optimal. The explore / exploit axis is fundamental to all decision making, but human risk avoidance probably biases away from optimal exploration.

By Jan 2nd — when most people were still in holiday mode — their entire team was fully back in action. Every sync was well-prepared, execution was fast, and nothing was half-hearted. Even though many team members didn’t come from a Web3 background, everyone was actively and intensely learning. In every discussion, they consistently identified the single most critical key to success, made fast decisions, and mobilized the entire team to execute. It’s not the “we have resources, let’s just throw money at it” mindset. They are deliberately building long-term value step by step. They value every partner and every dollar — while also knowing how to turn those into weapons for rapid market capture. And when it comes to critical decisions, they don’t hesitate to invest heavily. You can imagine what this combination can ultimately become: top-tier resources + top-tier execution + a massive market = Massive future for @worldlibertyfi $USD1 By the way, this also validates a thesis I shared in my previous article (link below): in 2025, stablecoins are increasingly becoming the bridge to mainstream assets. I’m starting to get into a habit of reading everything (blogs, articles, book chapters,…) with LLMs. Usually pass 1 is manual, then pass 2 “explain/summarize”, pass 3 Q&A. I usually end up with a better/deeper understanding than if I moved on. Growing to among top use cases. On the flip side, if you’re a writer trying to explain/communicate something, we may increasingly see less of a mindset of “I’m writing this for another human” and more “I’m writing this for an LLM”. Because once an LLM “gets it”, it can then target, personalize and serve the idea to its user.

Untold truth: we could have AGI today and it would not affect most of the world. People would not know what to do with it. I chatted with @conorgrennan (NYU's Chief AI Architect) on what we need to do to close the gap + developing an AI-first mindset:
