Today we are releasing Cloudflare OS, a chatbot with connectors, just like every other tech company is doing. Except actually, it's different. This is a remake of Sandstorm[.]io, my startup from 10 years ago, except this time built on Cloudflare Workers (the platform I've spent the last 9 years building) and deeply leveraging AI. This is more or less the culmination of my secret 10-year master plan. This is a full-on personal app vibe coding platform, in which the sandbox is so secure that you can pretty much go wild -- the AI cannot introduce a significant security bug. We believe a company's security team can feel comfortable giving non-technical users permission to vibe code and then sleep soundly at night. How is that possible? It's the Sandstorm security model, revisited. A "Gadget" is the same thing as a Sandstorm "Grain": a fine-grained app instance. For example, if you have a document editor app, each document runs as a separate instance of the app, in a separate sandbox (one "Gadget"). This means two things, both of which I think are Big Deals: 1. The platform can manage all access control, by controlling who can access the Gadget at all. There is no way the Gadget can accidentally leak itself to an attacker -- even an attacker who has access to other Gadgets based on the same app. 2. Since everyone is running their own copy of the code, everyone can freely *modify* their copy of the code. Think about #2# a bit more. What if, when you wanted a new feature in the software you are using, you could just prompt your agent to add it? This doesn't work in the cloud Software-as-a-Service model, because you are not running your own copy of the app. Sandstorm tried to change that 10 years ago, but the world wasn't ready, because not enough people had the skills or patience to actually modify their software. AI has changed that. Now you just ask the agent -- the same agent that you are using to help you interact with the Gadget can also modify the code of the Gadget. And it is so fun.

DeepMind's Andrew Trask on why the scaling laws are pushing AI from one big model toward a protocol: "The zoomed-out picture is that in the end, AI is gonna be a protocol instead of a program. We're seeing that evolution start to really gather steam as the scaling laws constrain how much data, compute, and talent one company can bring together." "When you combine models from multiple different providers, you're implicitly combining the data, compute, and talent that they trained on. So you can get better, faster models for a lower price, which is pretty crazy when you think about it." "If you want the absolute most accurate model, ensembling the top models is always going to win, you'll get higher scores than any single model. And if you want the best accuracy relative to any unit of price, ensembling some open and closed models is likely gonna own that Pareto frontier quietly for a while." "It won't be until there's a leaderboard that widely recognizes ensembles as comparable to individual models that we start to really see it. Then in 12 to 18 months, that saturates a bunch of benchmarks across the space, and the harnesses pick it up, routing you to the best combinations of models on the fly. That's when the market really starts to change in terms of how people buy intelligence." @iamtrask @openminedorg

opus 5 is a VERY interesting release for a few reasons 1. it showed that the general benchmarks we use today are almost completely useless now opus 5 is nowhere near fable in practical use, not even close. anyone who’s used it meaningfully can tell this very quickly after a few tasks. yet opus beats fable on many benchmarks i now trust domain specific benchmarks built with private datasets a lot more than the popular ones. perhaps the future is everyone running their own evals because the public ones are really not telling us much 2. it seems with the 5 series, anthropic is trying a new way of training models previously, the same generation of sonnet and opus were often released at the same time or sonnet comes out before opus, which indicates sonnet and opus were trained by separate pipelines in parallel with the 5 series, it was very clear that they trained mythos first, and then distilled it into sonnet and opus. it seems this approach has a big influence on the models seeing sonnet 5 being a flop and opus 5 getting pretty mixed reviews already, i’m not sure this is working out 3. “how pleasant is it to work with the model” used to be a strength in claude, but now it’s not. honestly, grok is my favorite right now on the “pleasant” dimension. kimi is not bad either it feels like both anthropic and openai are giving RLHF less care, in favor of scalable RL that’s machine verifiable this almost looks like AI is directing humans to build a world that’s more friendly for machines rather than humans, and most humans don’t even realize they are being manipulated to help with that almost every new generation of frontier models now talk more jargons, need more steering to do what you want, and are just less fun to work with if this continues, AI will start to speak their own language that looks like English but average humans can’t understand. they will choose to do things that their human user never asked for. are we already failing at alignment?

just met a cute girl at this wedding i’m at like actually cute. objectively dangerous face card. we’re talking. vibes are immaculate. she’s laughing at my jokes. i’m in my bag. then sports get brought up, she says it “i watch football” my ears PERKED up i played it cool. i said “oh nice, what’s your team” she said “i’m a giants fan” and that’s where a normal person would’ve said “cool, me too” and gotten her number but i am not a normal person my brain instantly went into terminal mode and i said “what do you think of the team?” she looked confused i kept going “Darius Slayton as our WR2? Are you kidding me. Matt Nagy as our OC? Did you see what he did to Patrick Mahomes? Our franchise qb and franchise edge rusher hate each other. And we traded away our superstar DT” she laughed nervously and said “what” and i said “And don’t even get me started on Cam Skattebo basically trying to get himself injured” she said “what” and i said “so do you even follow the team” she said “I literally have a Darius Slayton Jersey” the vibe was GONE just vanished. Just like Daniel Jones in primetime. her friend pulled her away. she didn’t look back. i was standing there alone at a wedding holding a drink i wasn’t even sipping, doing MENTAL MATH on how someone could claim to be a giants fan and think this Darius Slayton deserved that contract. my cousin walked over and said “bro she looked into you what happened” i said “she’s a casual” he said “so?” SO??? i then realized i would rather cut off my entire family than to share a bloodline with someone of the same species that couldn’t comprehend this she had a pretty face but a DISGUSTING perspective on life that i just couldn’t get behind could’ve had her number she could’ve been the mother of my children COULD’VE. but now at least she knows i know ball and honestly that’s worth more

I’ve gotten so used to Grok’s speech-to-text that typing now feels like hell Quick tip: Even when you’re using another agentic coding harness, try Grok STT through Grok Build Anthropic’s speech-to-text is still pretty basic actually in my experience. With longer technical prompts, it can quickly go off the rails and completely distort what you were trying to say Just press Ctrl + Space, start speaking, and let Grok transcribe the entire thought in real-time You can then copy it into another tool or press Enter and send it directly to Grok 4.5 right there in Grok Build It’s fast, highly accurate and paired with one of the most capable and efficient frontier models available Long, detailed rambling is often exactly what an AI agent needs to understand what you actually want
