Undercover deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in Michigan during a sting operation involving an alleged scam to defraud an elderly woman out of $700,000. The sheriff’s department was originally alerted to the alleged scam when a coin shop owner reported that a 79-year-old woman had come in seeking to convert her life savings into gold coins. Following his arrest, the scammer was detained at the Kent County jail, with a $100,000 bond and an ICE detainer in place.

Seven properties, a Mercedes G-Wagon, sneakers worn by Kobe Bryant and a Mickey Mantle rookie card worth $1.5 million. All of these things were bought with taxpayer money. Paul Randall pleaded guilty in one of the largest Medicaid fraud schemes in the California history – diverting more than $270 million in tax dollars.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Thursday released the wife of an active-duty U.S. Army soldier and Afghanistan war veteran after a monthlong detention, her husband, Sgt. 1st Class Jose Serrano, told CBS News. Serrano's wife, El Salvador native Deisy Rivera Ortega, was detained by ICE on April 14 during an immigration appointment in El Paso, Texas. Serrano, who has served in the Army for 27 years, including three deployments to Afghanistan, first revealed to CBS News last month that his wife had been arrested by ICE after living in the U.S. for roughly a decade. At the time, the Department of Homeland Security said ICE arrested Rivera Ortega because of a deportation order dating back to 2019. DHS also said she was convicted of entering the U.S. illegally, a federal misdemeanor.
