Why Tokenization Could Be the Most Important Economic Innovation of Our Lifetime | Bruce Fenton @BruceFenton is a longtime Bitcoin advocate since 2012, securities professional, and one of the early pioneers of tokenized securities. He is the founder and CEO of Chainstone Labs and founder of Atlantic Financial. Alongside Overstock founder @PatrickByrne, Bruce was involved in some of the earliest efforts to bring securities and financial-market infrastructure onto blockchain rails. In 2018, he tokenized equity in his own company, Chainstone Labs, on the Ravencoin blockchain—years before tokenization became one of Wall Street’s biggest narratives. In this episode, Bruce breaks down naked short selling, the plumbing behind traditional securities markets, and why he believes much of the problem is ultimately a ledger problem. We dive into questions such as: Who actually owns the stocks sitting in your brokerage account? How can shares be lent and rehypothecated? What role do brokers, clearing firms, DTCC, and Cede & Co. play in determining who owns what? And could blockchain replace an opaque system of claims and intermediaries with a transparent ledger showing exactly where an asset is and who owns it? We unpack what “tokenized stocks” actually means—and the important distinction between a token that simply gives you exposure to a stock’s price and a security issued natively onchain, where the token itself represents the actual share and the ownership rights that come with it. Bruce discusses how tokenization could allow smaller businesses to tokenize ownership and have their stock traded globally without needing to be listed on a traditional exchange like the NYSE, as well as what a future without KYC could look like. Finally, we get into Wall Street’s embrace of tokenization, the SEC’s evolving approach to tokenized securities, and one of the biggest questions surrounding the future of this technology: who ultimately controls these new financial rails? Chamath explains the political calculus behind Obama’s anti AI speech “This is a very important moment for a very simple reason, which is that the world is about to endow 3-6 companies with about $10 trillion of wealth.” “And what Obama knows very well is that most of those companies are overwhelmingly left leaning. And what he also knows is that there is a huge portion of that money that will then get put into philanthropic and charitable causes that then he and the people around him will be beneficiaries of." “That is the truth. We already know this because we know that some of these frontier corporations actually ask you to sign up DAFTs and have a portion of your stock that you're willing to pledge. So this money is going to go to things other than consumption or savings. It's going to go into PACs, it's going to go into political movements, and they stand to disproportionately benefit." “So this has nothing to do with prosperity. This is a very simple political calculus. If you freeze frame the economy the way it is today, a handful of organizations that will disproportionately be able to affect the Democrats will win, they will capture the lion's share of the economic gains. And then they will help the Democrats win power. That's all this is."

On economic and trade matters, President Xi said that cooperation is a two-way street. So long as both sides act in the spirit of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit, a pathway to resolving differences can always be found. It is hoped that the two sides will move in the same direction, namely adhering to mutual benefit and win-win results and promoting the stable development and improvement of China-U.S. economic and trade ties.

Tomorrow, Thursday September 24th at 12:50 pm est, I will seek unanimous consent to pass the Connected Vehicle Security Act. This bill will ensure that automobiles produced, controlled, or owned beyond a safe threshold by companies domiciled in foreign entities of concern are prohibited from entering the US. Those nations are Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China. In the case of China, the CCP has created an historic level of overcapacity so overwhelming that they have become subsidized predators sending automotive fentanyl all of the world. In doing so, they are enabling the industrial suicide of the nations whose leaders are incompetent enough to allow them into their countries. Beyond that catastrophic result, these automobiles are roving surveillance devices - that the CCP requires by its own laws - be sent to Beijing. Where you drive, what you see, who is in the car, all captured by high definition videos. Flock cameras on steroids in the hands of the CCP! As if that’s not bad enough, these vehicles can be remotely controlled, including acceleration, braking, and steering all outside of the driver’s control. Total and complete insanity. I can’t imagine ANY American who cares about our economic security or our national security would object to the immediate passage of this bill. The idea that someone who is ELECTED to protect America from its enemies would object is beyond my comprehension. We shall see. 🇺🇸

Rough back of the envelope math: if 40% of US physicians are OpenEvidence DAUs and there's ~22 workdays a month, 42m queries in August implies ~5 queries per workday day per physician (Google is ~4.2 searches per day and ChatGPT is ~2.5 queries per day). This kind of pulse on real-time clinical uncertainty is remarkable. Imagine you could now categorize those queries: see for which flavors of clinical uncertainty existing knowledge / solutions are most scant (or don't exist at all) and then plug in that knowledge / those solutions, fund studies / initiatives to create that knowledge / those solutions, etc. You see how OpenEvidence's flywheel will start to spin a lot faster than the labs in terms of capabilities. It's all about your product enumerating demand in some valuable subset of economic reality faster than competitors. In this case, OpenEvidence enumerates physician demand for information / capabilities that can help solve patient problems. They do this faster and with higher fidelity than anyone else. This is incredibly valuable.

After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution
