🚨 SCIENTISTS JUST CREATED ULTRA-COMPACT LENSES THAT COULD SHRINK CAMERAS DRAMATICALLY. Researchers have developed wafer-level meta-aspheric lenses that combine traditional curved lenses with flat metalenses. The result is a lens system that is only 3.39 mm thick but delivers wide field-of-view near-infrared imaging something that normally requires much bulkier optics. Why this matters: • Current high-performance NIR cameras are still relatively large and expensive • These new lenses can be manufactured at wafer scale (mass production) • They achieve high image quality in a volume of just 0.02 cm³ • Could enable much smaller, cheaper sensors for phones, drones, medical devices, and AR/VR The deeper implication is practical: We are entering an era where powerful imaging systems no longer need to be bulky. This kind of compact, high-performance optics could accelerate everything from better night-vision in phones to smaller medical imaging tools and more advanced autonomous systems. Andrew’s pioneering research to better understand liquid methane and oxygen explosions is helping enable the next generation of rockets that will return Americans to the Moon, establish a sustained U.S. presence on the lunar surface, and prepare us for Mars. America’s greatest achievements in space are built by extraordinary people whose work often happens behind the scenes. Andrew’s contributions will help shape the future of exploration for years to come. Software quality now depends on the constraints you set around your agents. When humans manually wrote most of the code we could look at the code itself for signs of quality. Is it clean? Is it thoughtful? Is it fast? Can another engineer understand it? Does it have tests? Agents can now generate more code than people can read. When code generation scales beyond review, quality - checks for one or more of correctness, maintainability, security, performance etc - increasingly has to live somewhere else. It moves into the harness, environment and operating system around the agent. This can be the tests and deterministic checks that decide what the system is allowed to do (amongst others). Your constraints are what may eventually enable loops of agents to deliver production software reliably. They can include unit tests, property tests, acceptance tests, mutation testing and quality metrics. This back-pressure lets the system resist bad work before it becomes somebody elses problem. Set your constraints. They decide whether the code your agents generate is good enough to ship.

At @SynaptrixAI, we’re exploring how people can control powered wheelchairs using only their minds, completely non-invasively. Our Atlas™ platform decodes movement intentions from EEG in real time and translates them into control of an on-screen cursor, similar to a motor implant without the surgery. Move the cursor forward and the wheelchair moves forward. Move it in any other direction and the chair follows. The same platform can enable thought-controlled wheelchair mobility, full computer access for work, gaming, chess, and more, as well as prosthetic and robotic arm control. It represents an important step toward restoring mobility and independence for people with paralysis without requiring an implant.
