Shopify stock is down 5.66 percent this week and I don't think that's a coincidence. Opus 5 shipped a few days ago. Within hours people weren't posting benchmark charts. They were posting storefronts. I watched someone build a full DTC store from a single prompt. "Build me a simple store." That was the whole brief. The model read the product photo, pulled a brand palette out of it, wrote the hero section and the product copy, and handed back something that looks like it came from an agency retainer. Then he typed "make my store more high converting" and it just went and did the work. The backend is the part nobody's talking about. Orders, products, discounts, email, A/B testing, analytics, native hooks into Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Attentive, Postscript. That's not a demo. That's a stack. His dashboard showed $102.3K in total sales, 1,126 orders, 659 returning customers, split across online store, Instagram Shop, TikTok Shop and email. For years the moat in ecom was execution. Finding a dev. Waiting on a theme. Paying someone to write copy. That moat just got filled in by a text box. What's left is knowing what to sell and who to sell it to. If the store builds itself, what exactly are you charging for?
