Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told CBS News' Nikole Killion on Thursday that New York could "absolutely" get involved in redrawing its congressional maps ahead of the 2028 presidential election.
She defended her answer when asked if the gerrymander is the best way to handle the situation, as other states scramble to change their maps ahead of November's midterms.
"If the Republican Party is going to aggressively redraw, we're looking at losing possibly 19 members of the Congressional Black Caucus because of this, frankly, racist redistricting efforts targeted towards disenfranchising Black voters across the country," she said. "And we have a responsibility to answer to it."
