Sony has confirmed it has not yet decided on the PS6 release date or price, citing ongoing cost pressures on key components.
In today’s financial results call Sony Group President and CEO Hiroki Totoki stated:
“We have not yet decided on at what timing we will launch the new console, or at what prices.” He added that the company is running simulations that include “changing business models” to find the best strategy.
The main issue is the continued rise in prices for memory and other semiconductors by global AI demand.
These increases are expected to persist into Sony’s fiscal 2027, directly affecting the console’s manufacturing costs. Sony has secured supplies for the remainder of 2026
For context, the PS5 has now shipped 93.7 million units lifetime, though recent quarterly hardware sales have slowed compared to the PS4 at a similar stage.
