Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said “Democrats will fight this bill tooth and nail,” referring to the $72 billion budget reconciliation bill that Republicans are pushing ahead of President Trump’s June 1 deadline.
The president has repeatedly said the ballroom is being funded through donations, not taxpayer dollars. But Democrats have highlighted the funds as evidence of GOP support for the project, which is unpopular in polling.
“Americans don't want a ballroom blitz. They want Congress to bring the cost down,” Schumer said on Tuesday.
