Subnautica 2’s lead designer says developing the sequel initially helped cure his fear of the sea.
He described the process as exposure therapy: “I was like, ‘Nope. These are just AI things. I feel nothing when I play against them anymore.’”
But the new massive squid-like apex predator known as the Collector has brought his phobias rushing back.
The new creature design deeply disturbed him, and he said, “This is going to make many people sad and scared.”
Subnautica 2 launches in early access on May 14.
