Meta is deploying new AI tools on Instagram and Facebook to detect users under the age of 13.
The AI analyzes textual clues across profiles, posts, comments, and bios such as mentions of birthdays or school grades combined with visual cues in photos and videos, including estimated height and bone structure.
Accounts flagged as potentially underage will be deactivated. Users must verify their age using identification or facial age estimation tools to regain access.
Meta says it uses general trait estimation alongside contextual analysis to better enforce the platforms’ minimum age requirement of 13.
