Nearly 50,000 people on the California side of Lake Tahoe could lose most of their power in less than one year because their power company pivots to data centers
NV Energy wants to use that power for many new data centers in Nevada that need huge amounts of electricity for computers and AI, so Liberty must find new power sources quickly.
Liberty says there will be no blackouts, but power bills may go up and it is unclear where the new power will come from.
The area has ski resorts, casinos, and millions of visitors every year
