Zhu Xinmei, Director & Research Fellow, Institute of International Communication, Development Research Center, National Radio and Television Administration of #China#, holds the view that #shortdramas# have developed into a mature industry, offering new opportunities for traditional media and overseas IP owners. Film and television institutions can leverage their #storytelling# expertise to shift into AI-generated short dramas. While AI expands the range of creative themes, stories with universal human appeal remain the core of communication.

China has begun deploying its first commercial constellation dedicated to space debris monitoring, with the first satellite lifted off on Friday aboard a Lijian-1 commercial rocket from northwest China. The Gande Constellation, a 120-satellite network that aims for round-the-clock all-orbit target detection, is expected to be fully deployed in three phases before 2030, achieving 100% coverage of high, medium and low orbits, with more than 200,000 effective detection arcs per day.

Chinese researchers have discovered a thriving colony of protected green sea turtles in lagoon seagrass beds on China's Huangyan Dao in the South China Sea, confirming the presence of a mature, interconnected coral reef-seagrass ecosystem that provides high-quality habitats for sea turtles and other marine fauna. The preliminary counts put the local turtle population at over 50 in this island lagoon.

China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) completed the installation of six domestically developed steel cables on Monday in Pingtang, southwest China's Guizhou Province, fully replacing the core components of its cable-driven suspension system. The six cables act as the "muscles" of the telescope, supporting its 30-tonne cabin — known as its "eye" — and enabling ultra-precise, real-time positioning and tracking at a height of 140 meters across a range of 206 meters.

More than 25,000 artificially-bred Yangtze sturgeon were released into the Yangtze River recently in Jiang'an County, southwest China's Sichuan Province. The Yangtze sturgeon is a rare fish species endemic to the Yangtze River and is under China's first-class state protection. Expanding restocking efforts is a key measure to restore natural reproduction and rebuild wild populations.

'Aerial herders' take off on Qinghai's plateau pastures At the foot of snow-capped mountains, on the vast grassland, a drone is on a herding mission. In Domkog township, Maqen county, Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Qinghai Province, herdsman Gongpo Tsering began using a drone to herd livestock this year. With an aerial view, he can quickly track the movements of his yak herd. The buzzing sound of the drone also helps drive the yaks down from the mountains. Once dependent on horseback to patrol the pastures, he now relies on technology to guard his livestock, making his work and daily life more efficient and convenient.

Encountering future tech at the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Exhibition At the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Exhibition running from May 27 to 29 in Xiamen, the future feels less like a concept and more like something already in motion. Humanoid robots make tanghulu and play tic-tac-toe. Driverless electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, unmanned gyroplanes, AI diagnosis tools and smart farming equipment are all on show. Together, they offer a close-up look at how cutting-edge technologies are moving from labs into real-world scenarios: from low-altitude tourism and weather modification to hospitals, farms and factories. The new industrial revolution is not just on display here. It is already taking off.
