Ten families are suing Palo Alto Unified after their kids got sent on a “field trip” to a mosque. Girls were told to wear hijabs. Every student got handed a Quran to take home. Photos taken inside without parental consent. This wasn’t some optional cultural visit. It was baked into the school’s “Social Justice Pathway” program, where kids were literally taught that Islam “promotes social justice” more than other faiths. CAIR’s response? Called the lawsuit “misguided” and said it was all voluntary. Handing a teenager a religious text and putting a hijab on a teenage girl during school hours isn’t voluntary, it’s institutional pressure with extra steps. Public schools are supposed to be religiously neutral. This wasn’t neutral. This was indoctrination dressed up as “education.”
