A man who is genuinely admired and inspires millions is seen as a threat to those who want to rule the world with fear.
If you have a badge and a gun - but are not loved - you are very fearful of those who are loved.
Hope and inspiration is the antithesis to fear.
Love is the antithesis to fear.
In an attempt to dampen his power and stop the people from loving him, they accused him of sexual crimes and slandered his name all over the television and media.
