Another massive new construction project underway at Giga Texas, this time on the very far W of the site across FM973 & near the Tesla Rd intersection. It looks like some of this is to move the rental equipment lot further away to allow a new graded area for a new construction project. What this is is still uncertain, but I do know changes in plans & permits have been underway as the entire Giga Texas site is seeing wide scale massive construction projects that are literally transforming what the overall campus visually looks like. We may hear more about all these projects at the 2nd Qtr Financial Results meeting on Wednesday … certainly the cash flow and Capital expenditures will be a topic of discussion, but you will already know all about that via the coverage of Giga Texas construction! 😎

The Optimus factory at Giga Texas is growing faster, now 10 column grids wide (~400 to 450 feet in length, N-S or ~130 to 140 m) and growing to the N and S every day. On the S end, land reclamation work continues too, with more fill dirt, Geotextile membranes & the silt fences have been relocated further S along with more tree and vegetation removal. The full extent of the site and ultimate length of the building continues to evolve!

The helicopters are flying from Starbase highway 4 beginning sweeps of the restricted areas to be sure the flight path is clear ahead of Starship flight 13 later today! So far, everything is looking good for the 5:45 PM CST launch (with a 90 minute window)!

The Optimus Factory at Giga Texas continues to see quick installation and assembly of steel on the growing superstructure, now 8 column grids “long” and nearly as wide as the final perimeter grade beam. GeoPier work on the south end continues as the prerequisite for footing construction. Footings are nearly complete not eh entire north end and on the south end, the foundation is reaching into the newly reclaimed land, which will further lengthen the building, inching closer to the Central Campus Support group of facilities which includes the Battery Cathode, Die Shop and Cortex 2 facilities.

13 July 2026 Giga Texas Snapshots! Track activity today with Cybercabs continuing testing while the new employee Cybercab service is now underway. The Optimus factory has grown again now 8 column lengths (~360 feet or ~100 m N to S) long and almost to full width where the steel assembly is happening. More footings, GeoPiers & for the 1st time, the foundation has extended S into the newly reclaimed land area. The E Advanced chip fab site is also growing with more foundation prep work. May be my last Giga Texas flight this week due to Starship Flight 13 & Lithium Plant drone flight later this week.

About 3 months ago on 21 March, @elonmusk announced an ambitious @Tesla, @SpaceX, & @xai Advanced Technology Chip Fab located at Giga Texas just east of downtown Austin, Texas. This is expected to be "the most epic chip-building effort ever, combining logic, memory & advanced packaging under one roof." The chip designs produced at this facility will be key elements of future Tesla Autonomous cars, the @robotaxi service, Optimus Robots & orbiting AI Data Centers, among many more products. So, how is construction of this new facility coming along? Here is a 3-month visual recap showing the bulk of the work, consisting of a massive effort to relocate construction offices & trailers, materials & equipment related to past & on-going Giga Texas construction, drillings for soil sample testing, extension of River Rd, excavations for underground water pipes, tree clearing, basic grade work & initial GeoPier construction. There remains more relocation of workshops & the recycling center before the entire site is ready for construction, but progress is already quite noticeable. Joe Cybercab action at Giga Texas, including a Test Track facility dedicated for Cybercab testing, “Cybercab” logos on many of the cars parked in the outbound lot, noticeable inventory changes too (I get asked that often), many lined up at the factory exit point & more! Also, I noted the return of what looks like pick up and drop off stop testing in the same areas around the factory we saw this happening last year, but without a chase car. It did look like someone was in the Cybercabs driving around, but I think they were just supervising the autonomous drive, possibly working out some final details of the operation. Wouldn’t it be cool to start seeing Cybercabs available to employees as a kind of shuttle to being then to work and take them home? The @Robotaxi service does include Giga Texas. 🤔🤠

Giga Texas’s Test Track is operational with Cybercabs driving on it today! This video clip is from Nate @StarbaseBrewing and shows two Cybercabs using the track … view from the ground slightly obstructed by trees and vegetation, but I hear many Cybercabs have been using the track today. The photo is from the air and made by @AirwaveDynamics recently to show the current state of construction. Much of the road surfaces are now paved and marked,m along with rumble strips on the central straight section. More work remains to finish the track, but nice to see it in action. I’ll be flying on Wednesday after the rains leave the area and I get back on schedule after returning home after 2 weeks in Europe. In the meantime, check this out!
