🇺🇸🇮🇷 Rubio insists Iran can't charge for the Strait:
"The Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway.
No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees.
That's existing international law.
I think all the countries in the region will agree with us."
The trouble is who actually owns the water.
Iran says the Strait will "never return to pre-war conditions," Ghalibaf claims the right to rule it, and Oman just formed a joint committee with Tehran to manage it together.
"All the countries in the region will agree with us" runs straight into the two whose territorial waters every ship passes through, and they've already agreed with each other instead.
