Good News: New Executive Order from the Donald Trump Administration will make it so undocumented immigrants are no longer able to use Zelle or Venmo anymore
Undocumented immigrants rely very heavily on Zelle and Venmo for payments and cash deposits
Here’s why Trump’s Executive Order will stop them from using these services
His EO It directs the Treasury Department, federal bank regulators, and FinCEN to strengthen rules under the Bank Secrecy Act and Patriot Act regarding customer due diligence, especially for accounts that may involve individuals without legal work authorization
One of those “Triggers for Enhanced Due Diligence” is Patterns of activity such as frequent peer-to-peer transfers from Zelle, Venmo and other payment apps
Banks must investigate the source of funds, and then freeze the account if they find evidence it’s an undocumented
Because they overwhelmingly reply on these apps they will be effected the most by this new change
They should all be located and swiftly deported

It’s chaos in Yosemite National Park
This is the first summer since Yosemite stopped using their reservation system
There have been almost 100,000 more visitors than this time last year
It’s so crowded the lines of cards are hours long and people are parking illegally in the meadows that are supposed to be protected
“The line of cars goes on and on and on, all waiting to get into Yosemite National Park. People were waiting for like at least hour and a half and once you're inside, the waiting isn't over”
By 7.30 am parking can already be at capacity
“The entire park, it was impossible to park. There's nowhere to park for anybody. Waiting to find parking, waiting to get on the shuttle — With many getting impatient and just illegally parking wherever they could. There are people pulling onto meadows, pulling off pavement, going off-road”
“Environmental Resource Center says it was at least better than this. Without any limits the amount of vehicles, amount of people, it becomes overwhelmed. He believes the decision was good for business, not for the environment”
You can’t even take the shuttles they’re so packed, I found:
Shuttles are overwhelmed, trails including Half Dome cables are jammed, and congestion is constant. Park staff and environmental groups say it’s harming sensitive meadows and wildlife habitat
There is no daily cap on vehicles during peak summer hours
Many park employees, over 300 signed a petition, environmental groups, and former staff criticize the decision as prioritizing crowds over visitor experience
Go back to a strict reservation system. There are way too many people

Utah approved a data center so massive it's going to be more than twice the size of Manhattan
It’s called The Stratus Project, it’s a AI data center campus in Box Elder County
- The full project could cover over 40,000 acres, an area bigger than Manhattan
- Total size will be around 62 square miles
- The power demand is 3 gigawatts of electricity, roughly the output of multiple nuclear reactors
- Environmental groups warn it could raise Utah's planet-heating pollution by nearly 50%
- Estimates suggest the project's power systems could consume up to 16.6 billion gallons of water per year. (25,000 Olympic swimming pools)
First let’s talk about power, it will actually use up to 9 GW of power. This is roughly double Utah’s current peak electricity demand. Only the first phase will use 3 GW
Next let’s talk about water, Developers are now saying that they will use closed-loo dry (air-based) cooling systems to minimize consumption. But it’ll still use a lot of water
This is bad news for water conservation. Utah is in drought conditions, the Great Salt Lake is shrinking. It’s visible and you can see it right now
So why do we need this really, according to what I can find it’s going to be tied with defense contracts
The data center will be tied to US defense priorities. It overlaps with Department of Defense areas and is advanced through Utah’s Military Installation Development Authority. Officials cite needs for energy resilience, secure computing power, and data storage for defense operations
So this is a private data center but it’s not really a private data center…. Because it’ll be working with the government. One layer removed…
