Introducing Claude Sonnet 5.5, the second model in the Claude 5.5 family. It’s a clear upgrade over Sonnet 5, runs more than 30% faster, and costs up to 30% less for most work.

Starting today, 10,000 scientists across every field, from math to chemistry to physics and more, can get Claude through our new Claude Team plan for scientists. Standard seats are free, and premium seats with 5x usage limits are $15 per month, an 80% discount, for one year. Claude is becoming increasingly capable of scientific work, with recent progress on problems from advanced physics calculations to protein design. Alongside that progress, we've been investing in the research community: Claude Science launched in June, and our AI for Science program funds high-impact projects with free credits. Today's expansion builds on both. Principal investigators (or equivalent) at academic and nonprofit research institutions can sign up, then add the researchers in their group. Claude now has its own built-in browser in Cowork. When your task involves a website, a browser opens in Cowork's side panel, and Claude navigates, fills forms, and finishes the job.

Your Claude in Chrome sessions now carry over to desktop, web, and mobile. Conversations are saved, and your skills and connectors work in the browser. Available on Max and Team today, rolling out to Pro in the coming weeks.

We're making Claude Sonnet 5's introductory pricing permanent. We launched Sonnet 5 in June at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens through August 31, and that price will remain unchanged.

We’re updating Claude Fable 5’s biology safeguards to reduce false positives. In our testing, this update reduced biology-related fallbacks by about 85% across our product surfaces. Fable can now assist on a wider range of everyday health and educational questions. We believe the biggest positive impacts of AI will be in biology and medicine, and we’re committed to putting frontier intelligence safely into the hands of as many researchers as possible. Fable will continue to fallback to Opus 5 for requests we consider dual-use—including virology, toxicology, and molecular design—so it isn't yet usable for professional biology research and drug development. We're committed to closing that gap through trusted access pathways for frontier biology capabilities.

The Claude Security plugin for Claude Code is now available in beta. Scan your changes for vulnerabilities before you commit, or run a full scan across your codebase, all from your terminal on the Claude inference you already run.

You can now ask Claude about the Anthropic Economic Index, our public dataset measuring how AI is used across the economy. Ask which occupations use AI the most, or what kinds of tasks people are automating, and the answers draw directly from the Index data.

New in Claude Cowork: teach Claude a skill. Record your screen while you do a task, talk through it as you go, and Claude turns it into a skill it can run again. Find it under Record a skill in the + menu of the Claude desktop app. Available on Pro, Max, and Team plans.

Beginning July 20, Claude Fable 5 will be included in all Max and Team Premium plans, at 50% of limits. Pro and Team Standard users will continue to have access to Fable via usage credits, and will receive a one-time $100 credit. Demand for Fable has been challenging to predict, which is why we rolled it out to subscription plans in stages, extending access several times as we secured additional capacity.
