I cannot even imagine the consequences of the discovery of immortality. If and when biomedical engineering reaches that point, who gets to live? Who gets to reproduce? How expensive is it? You would be buying time in a severely limited space.
It would be the end of us. Unending wars will be fought. The balance of power will massively shift.
