Today we are releasing GPT-5.6-Cyber.
The model is our first large-scale attempt at directly improving capabilities for advanced cybersecurity tasks such as exploit development.
We are finding it to be really quite strong for accelerating defensive work. We are using it across our stack for red-teaming, and our security researchers have used it to find and patch a huge host of 0-day vulnerabilities in open-source software.

astra is a powerful model and we are working to make it generally available.
we do not think it is a good strategy to keep powerful models to a chosen few.
given its cyber capabilities, we need a little big longer to do do this safely. but hopefully not too long!

i would rather be an optimist and work hard than a pessimist posting about why things won't work.
it's much more difficult and the most likely path is failure, but society fails if people don't try.

chatgpt work is remarkable, and "work" undersells it.
from my phone i sent:
"use all my chat history to figure out ideas for a long weekend trip with 8 friends, plan the best three options, make a full-stack site where the 9 of us can coordinate on what we would want to do in each place and decide where to go, and then after we get to group agreement make reservations. draft an email in my gmail i can send out to my friends when the site is ready."
it...just worked.
