Irish InterCity A714 from Dublin Heuston to Galway (Ceannt).
Consensus isn't a document. It's a decision miners make under pressure, in real time. 13 blocks behind on an invalid fork. Caught up. Reorged back to valid. This is what the job looks like on a quiet Saturday

This was once a question I used when interviewing programmer candidates. Why is there a letter “E” before “The”? Is it part of the coinbase message, and what significance does it have?

A Slack badge just reminded me that yesterday was my 13th work anniversary at @f2pool. It brought back memories of those days when I met @bitfish in early 2013 and we set off on our Bitcoin and crypto adventure together. On the high-speed train to work, I was using LRUSD to buy bitcoins in bulk across several international dealers, then selling them to novices on Taobao, converting the proceeds back into LRUSD, and repeating the cycle. On good days, I could make over a thousand dollars across multiple round trips. Thanks to the strong market in those first few months, I managed to save up $100,000, which finally gave me the confidence to take the leap. Many years later, looking around, @bitfish is still one of the best entrepreneurial partners one could ever hope to find. The only regret is that I was so focused on taking photos of the trains and train stations those days that I barely captured any other pictures for what we were actually doing in Bitcoin and crypto at the time.

Someone once paid a $515,000 fee to send $2,000 in Bitcoin For a few days in September 2023 nobody knew who it was Then it turned out to be Paxos, the company behind PayPal's stablecoin A single buggy transfer turned $2 in fees into $515,000 while the usual fee was around 61 cents F2Pool mined the block and could have legally kept every coin but they gave it all back 5 days later

Over the past year, I received 83.7M $SPK from @sparkdotfi as rewards, and dump them on @CoWSwap for 663 ETH and 1.4M USD. I’m feeling some regret now.

The CoW Swap attacker was dumb. Had they silently overwritten the custom recipient to their own address on all trades, the impact would have been far more severe.
Railway is not just a means of transport. It is a culture. Japan has it. China has it. India has it. Russia has it. The United States once had it, but it has long been forgotten. Despite Europe having plenty of railways, it doesn’t have a well-established railway culture. Without a culture, it will never have a soul.

This photo is possible because Artemis II is the only crewed lunar mission launched just before a full moon. All Apollo missions were launched 10–13 days before a full moon, as they were timed so the lunar module would land shortly after the lunar sunrise.

Even in darkness, we glow. In this image of Earth taken by the Artemis II crew, we can see the electric lights of human activity. In the lower right, sunlight illuminates the limb of the planet.

NASA didn’t ask SpaceX to run that Artemis II live stream. But SpaceX did ask NASA’s @danhuot to run those Starship live streams.
Nasa should have asked SpaceX to run that Artemis II live stream. Quality feels like back in 1960 🤣🙈

We make a flyby of the Moon in a free-return trajectory before committing to landing on it. Now with the “Gateway to Mars” in place, should we make a similar flyby of Mars before committing to a landing there, too?

I hope they keep this “Gateway to Mars” sign in place as a constant reminder that only Mars is the ultimate destination, and the Moon is there only for “vehicle familiarization.” For more than two decades, the faith in Mars has bound this great team together in unity and powered @SpaceX’s repeated successes. For many people, the recent developments feel like a collapse of that faith. 5–7 years may be okay, but any longer and we will miss the 2033–2035 Mars window, and getting to Mars will become harder and harder. 18 years is one generation. I often say that Inspiration Mars was one generation early. I didn’t expect our generation would end up repeating what Dennis Tito had experienced. I still believe what @rookisaacman used to tell us: we can do both.

Considering signal BIP-110 and put an 84-byte OP_RETURN in the signaling block. Peace!
I'm pleased to report that Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Knots have reached an agreement to merge and activate BIP-110 before the August deadline!
When people talk about a once-in-a-lifetime trip, they often don’t realize that they may truly never return there. Many journeys that seem grand at the time eventually become ordinary parts of our lives. But even the little restaurant next to your home might, after some ordinary day, become a place you never visit again. Will space be once in a lifetime? I think not. But I really don’t know whether I will ever set foot on Bouvet again. I think Bouvet Island will very likely remain my true once-in-a-lifetime trip.

My 36th flight of 2025 was fram2. My 36th flight of 2026 is an Ultimate Aviation helicopter (ZS-RDW) flight from Icetugs Argus to Bouvet Island. This is my 1146th flight of all time. Bouvet Island (ISO 3166-2:BV) has become the 150th (of 249) country/territory I have visited. 🇧🇻
