most ppl don’t realize that lobster was once absurdly abundant, cheap as hell, & largely associated with poverty cuz dead lobsters tasted terrible. it was also used as fertilizer or animal feed, & decidedly not a prestige food.
then ppl found out if you kill it right before eating it sorta tasted better so eventually through manufactured scarcity it became a luxury food.
now it’s a meme about decadence.
