A new approach to acoustic simulation from PKU could support future work in embodied intelligence! The research team led by Li Sheng and Wang Guoping from the School of Computer Science, Peking University, has won the Best Paper Award at the prestigious CASAXR 2026 (39th International Conference on Computer Animation, Social Agents, and Extended Reality) held in Geneva, Switzerland. Targeting key bottlenecks in traditional acoustic simulation—including numerical errors and poor adaptability to complex dynamic boundaries—the team proposed the novel SonicRadiation framework. This ghost-cell-free hybrid boundary-grid coupling method achieves simultaneous improvements in simulation accuracy and efficiency. It lays a solid physical foundation for high-fidelity acoustic simulation, embodied intelligence training, and accurate sound-physics coupling modeling for world models, empowering AI agents with authentic acoustic perception and interactive capabilities in complex dynamic scenarios. #PKUResearch# #EmbodiedAI# @CampusBiotech

Huge congratulations to PKU alumni Wang Hong and Deng Yu, recipients of the 2026 Fields Medal — mathematics’ highest honor! 🧮 Announced at the 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Philadelphia, the pair are among four mathematicians worldwide to claim this prestigious prize, awarded every four years to outstanding scholars under 40. The awards are historic on several levels. —First time two mathematicians who completed undergraduate studies in mainland China win the Fields Medal in the same year. —Both joined Peking University as undergraduates in 2007. —Wang Hong becomes only the third female Fields Medalist ever, the first Chinese woman, and the first recipient with a bachelor’s degree from a mainland Chinese university. We are immensely proud of their extraordinary breakthroughs and lasting contributions to global mathematics.

From an engaging lecture by PKU professor Fan Shiming to hands-on encounters with humanoid robots, the delegation experienced both the ideas and innovations shaping modern China. Beyond the classroom, they wandered through tea-covered hills, cruised across the iconic 西湖 West Lake, and explored centuries-old cultural traditions. A visit to a thriving rural community offered a rare glimpse into China's countryside transformation. Their Hangzhou adventure wrapped up with a close look at the future of mobility — and no shortage of unforgettable memories along the way. After exploring cutting-edge innovation in Shenzhen, the next stop of the "Harvard Deep Dive in China – Peking Univ." program brought participants to Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province. For William, the city's charm came from the combination of old and new: centuries of history, vibrant local traditions, and a modern city full of energy.
