Instagram has turned off end-to-end encryption for Direct Messages, a feature introduced in 2021 that let users choose extra privacy for their chats.
It is now off by default for everyone because Meta said not many people used it.
The company can now read all DM content, including text messages, photos, videos, voice notes, and other files.
If you turned on encryption before, download your chat history soon since Meta has not said how long you have to do this.
