Matt Ryan, who played Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, says the term “voice actor” doesn’t really fit modern video game performances anymore.
Ryan explained that actors in today’s games do much more than record dialogue. With motion capture and facial capture technology, they perform full scenes using body movements, facial expressions, and emotions, which are used directly in the game.
“You see the performances in the eyes, it blows me away,”
He also said that working on modern games is now very similar to acting in movies because performers are involved in every part of the character, not just the voice.
