Opus 5 replaced Opus 4.8 for me, it was generally stronger in everything... except it shares some of the weird language quirks of Fable, including a love of density and FableSpeak.

Agreed: GPT-5.6 Pro (which is only available via the chatbot) is the smartest model out there. GPT-5.6 Ultra (the best model in Codex) is not near as powerful on hard tasks.
For really hard problems: GPT-5.6 Sol Pro>Fable 5 Ultracode > GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra. (Yes, this is confusing)

I had Fable build another thing I always wanted, a full procedural fantasy kingdom generator with economics, trade routes, population growth, wars, lineages, and occasional dragons. First, I worked with it on a plan, then it made it.

I took the new AA-Briefcase scores from @ArtificialAnlys (basically having the AI do multi-week consulting gigs with a lot of complexity) and graphed the frontier curve for open and closed models:

Is Gemini 3.5 Pro being export controlled? Because if not...
I know they are pivoting to health care(?!) but there is still nothing like Midjourney for making strange and atmospheric images and short animations in ways no other AI image generator can do.

A real problem with feeling the acceleration viscerally is that current models are really good and it is hard to feel the vibe difference on most individual tasks with new models, even as AIs continue to increase in ability by large amounts (which they actually are doing).

I had Opus 4.8 in Claude Code write a sophisticated, if minor, academic paper from a archive of hundreds of de-identified research files from years ago
I had to use GPT-5.5 Pro as a reviewer, it spotted one major error & some minor points. Opus corrected

Really curious when Gemini is going to join the Cowork & Codex race to build a local app that isn’t just for developers. Antigravity hasn’t posted updates to X in a month, and remains very software focused. Meanwhile we see accelerated updates and releases from OpenAI & Anthropic

So Mythos was, indeed, not marketing hype.
Remember this is a general purpose model that just happens to be good at finding exploits because good models are good at lots of things. Expect similar from OpenAI & Google. And from open models in 8 months.

I wrote a bit of a guide to ChatGPT’s Code Interpreter, which I have found to be the most useful and powerful mode of AI.
It is, like every product made by OpenAI so far, terribly named. It is less a tool for coders and more a coder who works for you.
