A French security researcher found a major issue with about 1.1 million Wi-Fi baby monitors and security cameras made by the Chinese company Meari Technology. Many brands sell these cameras, such as Arenti, Anran, Boifun, iEGeek, and some Wyze models. The vulnerability let anyone watch live videos from homes in 118 countries. They could also access saved photos, email addresses, and locations, while the researcher saw private scenes like babies sleeping, kids playing, and inside bedrooms. The company learned of the issue in March, fixed the main problem, and now urges users to update the camera software to version 3.0.0 or higher. They paid the researcher 24,000€ as a reward. If you have one of these cameras, check the app for updates right away. Many security experts recommend replacing Wi-Fi cameras with non-internet-connected ones for watching children or private areas.
