Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will still release on November 19, 2026, he said this about the release date: “November 19th. I do know.”
He was honest about the delay and said, “I think we’re about 18 months behind the original date. Not much more than that.”
Zelnick explained that his company is willing to accept big delays to make the game really good because they care more about quality than speed.
As an example, he talked about the new Borderlands game where two months before launch the team wanted to fully change the art style, which would cost $50 million more and push the release back by one year, but Zelnick approved it.
“Had we not done that, Borderlands wouldn’t have been a hit. And that was a non-obvious decision. And I can pretty much assure you no one else in the business would have done it.”
Zelnick described GTA 6 as the most valuable entertainment brand ever made, and the huge success of GTA Online gives Rockstar the money and time to make GTA 6 perfect instead of rushing it.
