Today, I whisked and enjoyed some matcha in a tea bowl that once
belonged to my grandmother.
Two years ago, I also inherited several other items from my mother that my grandmother used, such as Kutani-yaki chopstick rests and Aizu-nuri lacquerware bowls.
My grandparents were not wealthy, so these pieces are likely not expensive, but I truly cherish them and want to take good care of them.
I married later in life and was unable to have my child meet my grandparents.
However, once my children are older—and old enough to appreciate the value of these things—I hope to pass these heirlooms on to him with telling him
"These belonged to your grandparents, so please look after them well."
