Today, I whisked and enjoyed some matcha in a tea bowl that once belonged to my grandmother. Two years ago, I also inherited several other items from my mother that my grandmother used, such as Kutani-yaki chopstick rests and Aizu-nuri lacquerware bowls. My grandparents were not wealthy, so these pieces are likely not expensive, but I truly cherish them and want to take good care of them. I married later in life and was unable to have my child meet my grandparents. However, once my children are older—and old enough to appreciate the value of these things—I hope to pass these heirlooms on to him with telling him "These belonged to your grandparents, so please look after them well."

For those living along the Tokyu Ikegami Line: Right in front of Senzokuike Station on the Tokyu Ikegami Line, you'll find the beautiful Senzoku-ike Pond. Why not take a stroll there this weekend? It is one of the largest and most scenic ponds in Tokyo. The area is dotted with historic spots, such as the site where legend says the Buddhist monk Nichiren washed his feet, as well as the grave of Katsu Kaishu. It’s a wonderful place to relax, whether you're interested in renting a boat or simply enjoying the seasonal nature around the pond. I often go for walks there on weekends with my wife and my two-year-old son. The photo I’ve attached was taken during a recent visit. I was trying to frame the shot with an extreme crop, inspired by the ukiyo-e woodblock prints of Hiroshige Utagawa, but... well, it’s harder than it looks!
